Q&A video + YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Dear readers,

I have said so many times in the past that I was going to start with videos or vlogs, but for some reason I could never start.
I felt quite uncomfortable in front of a camera and I was always so confused as to what language to speak.
Over the years I have always spoken and written in English and that’s why I have quite an international public of followers.
I once started with some videos in English but felt like I always got too many comments about my bad accent or that I didn’t say things correctly…
I finally decided that I will just start and it will first be in Dutch (sorry guys… You can always try to use subtitles on Youtube :s) because it makes me feel more comfortable!
Maybe I will change to English over time… (If I reach too little amount of people lol)
One of my first videos is a Q&A so that you can get to know more about me before subscribing to my channel. <3
My channel won’t be purely fashion focused like my Instagram account. I would like to show you more about my medical life, my daily life and some topics I am passionated about too!
Only posting about fashion started to feel so restricting, while I feel like there is so much more to show or say…

Oh, and I am so happy to finally show you my first videos because I have been saying for so long that I would start but I never really did. :s

The Q&A video is in Dutch, but you can find a short summary in English down below.
(The text is not completely the same as everything I say in the video but the majority or the message is the same!)

VIDEO PART 2:

1) How did you start with blogging?

When I participated in all of these pageants, I was obligated to post a lot on social media.
I noticed I actually liked to blog about my life or my adventures and when the pageants stopped, it was something I wanted to continue.
I started my blog to write about my pageant adventures and after that I decided I wanted to convert my blog into a fashion blog.
It was a teenage dream of mine and I finally found the courage and confidence to make it true.
I never found the confidence to start a blog out of my own; I was too scared what people would say and also scared that nobody would be interested in me.
Maybe it was because of the pageants that I finally started to learn the art of not giving a fuck of what people will say about you.
When you do things that are a little bit outside of the box of what normal people do, you can always expect some backlash, people talking behind your back or ridiculizing you.
I am quite sure that happened too, but I think I just reached the age and maturity to be stronger than that.
Always follow your own path… People will always talk!
My blog first had the name ‘High heels & stethoscopes’ but I thought it was too long and too hard to remember for people, that’s why I changed it to ‘The World of Kim’. Easy!

2) Why did you participate in pageants? Don’t you think that it is superficial and outdated since it objectifies women?

I have to admit that I didn’t like the part of pageants where you get objectified as a woman.
Honestly, it was the part I hated about it.
A lot of times I felt reduced to my appearance and I didn’t like it because I have so much more to offer as a woman than just that. It made me feel objectified and I thought that it was also slightly degrading.
Maybe I had another view of pageants anno 2017, I thought it focused on the person as a whole but I feel like that aspect hasn’t changed at all.
I just saw it as an opportunity to have fun, explore the world and to be on a stage.
It also gave me a lot of opportunities I normally would never have gotten and I have grown so much as a person because of it.
Pageants might seem superficial on the outside but the whole adventure is a learning process about life and about yourself.
In my case I met people from all over the world and was in another country for a whole month.
That experience alone was a katalysator for personal growth.

3) How do you find the energy to combine medical school with all the things you do next to it??

When there is a passion for something, you will always find the energy for it!
Actually, when there is passion, you will receive energy from doing the things you love to do.
Of course there are sacrifices to make, I don’t have that much free time to do other things next to it.
I might not see my family as often or I might not spend so much time on social activities.
You always need to make choices in life… You can’t have it all!

4) What type of doctor would you like to become?

From when I was 15 years old, I always said I wanted to become a plastic surgeon!
I am a very creative person and I love esthetics.
Also, I think it would be a very beautiful thing to make someone feel better by making them look better.
I am not so focused on the superficial side of it, I truly believe you can change a life by removing a big complex of a person.
However, you never know how your life will turn out so who knows what I will end up as??

5) What did you want to be when you grew up?

If I am completely honest, I wanted to be fashion designer when I was in primary school.
I used to go with my mom to the fashion museum in Antwerp and I was mesmerized by the fashion designs and the dresses (you know that’s also the creative side of me speaking :p).
I bought my own sewing machine when I was around 8 years old and I was buying magazines with patterns to make my own clothes.
In these times, I would also buy magazines like VOGUE and I was obsessed with that world. My favorite movie was ‘The devil wears Prada’. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I loved to design my own clothes on paper too.
My views changed when I was 12 and since then I said I wanted to become a doctor.
I feel really happy to be able to combine my passion for fashion and medicine.

6) Would you rather be clever or beautiful?

That’s really hard!! I sometimes feel like being beautiful as a woman gets rewarded disproportionally in this superficial world. It is not healthy for young girls to be growing up in a world where their entire value depends on their appearance. It is a part of society I hate a lot.
Being a beautiful woman tends to give you a lot of advantages in this world, I won’t deny that.
However, you don’t keep the same type of beauty forever while you will stay smart forever, so I would go for being clever!

7) What is your worst and best characteristic?

The worst characteristic is perhaps that I am always so chaotic and messy.
I wished I was this extremely organized person but instead my head is so chaotic and there is absolutely no order in it!

My best characteristic… Hmm, it is hard to say your best characteristic yourself. ;p
What I probably like about myself is the fact that I am smiling a lot and I am always friendly to people.
That’s also something I like in other people.
I mean, actually I am quite introverted so I might come over quite reserved towards people but whenever you start talking to me, I will always be smiling and friendly to anyone!!
I sometimes get sad when people think I am arrogant and for some reason I appear arrogant when you haven’t talked to me yet.
Perhaps it is because of me being reserved and introverted that I am perceived that way, I really don’t know.
Anyway I have heard that quite a lot but most of the time people change their mind whenever they start talking to me!

I don’t feel like I have a reason to be arrogant towards anyone! I am a person who thinks in an egalitarian way and that means that I see every person as equal to the other.
I don’t care how much money you have, how beautiful, educated or popular you are… I will treat you in the same way!
That’s probably the reason why I don’t understand phenomena like celebrity culture where some people are put on such a pedestal that they are treated and seen like some god or goddess.

It’s not any of my interest at least. ๐Ÿ™‚

8) What do you like to do in your free time when you are not blogging and when you’re not busy with medicine?

There is almost no time left, haha!
Of course I like to spend some time with the people I love.
Next to that, it is just good to reaaaally relax from time to time and just have a chill evening with a good movie and some food.
(I don’t allow myself a lot of free time, I have this feeling that I have to be productive all the time.. Otherwise I feel like I am wasting my time! But the thing is, I don’t have a lot of free time because of medical school and there are so many things I would like to do next to it, that I would like to use my time as productive as possible. Maybe if I would ever have a more relaxed life, I would take life more easy!)

9) I see that you are quite adventurous! What is still on your bucket list?

When I was 12 years old, I made a list of things I wanted to do in my life. I actually made a lot of these lists throughout my life.
I love to experience a lot of sides of life and I do believe that the only way you can become more wise is to see and experience the world in a lot of ways.
I am actually quite happy to say that I have already ticked off a lot of things already. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Well, one of the things on my bucket list was to start a Youtube channel. It is something I already wanted to do since I was 13 years old and then whenever I started this blog, I wanted to start with videos next to it.
I don’t know why, but I never found the courage to actually persist with video making but I hope that’s finally out of the way.
I hope eventually to inspire a lot of people, but it will be a slow process. Also, I don’t have that much of free time in medical school so it won’t be something that will be done very quickly!
This is a good start. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Another thing that I will do soon that is on my bucket list is to travel to another country for a medical internship (if Covid allows, but luckily I am vaccinated already so it’s more safe). Soon more about that!

I also would like to write a book some day, but that is a plan that is far faaaar ahead of me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

10) Do you ever go out without make up and with comfy clothes? You always look so on point!!

Noooo, not at all!
And you know what makes me laugh so hard? People think I am that type of person that is looking good all the time, even when I stay home which couldn’t be further from the truth!
Whenever I get home, I just can’t wait to throw off my clothes of that day and change in something more comfortable. However, what I do want to say is that even when I wear comfy clothing, it will always be pretty comfy clothing. ;p
My hair will always be in a messy bun though, it might look ugly but it’s the most comfortable hair style ever!!
Also, when I have been wearing make up and styled my hair for a whole week in a row, I love to be without make up for the weekend if I can (if I am not filming a video or doing a photoshoot of course!).
As you can see, I LOVE to wear beautiful clothes and I love to look good, but sometimes it takes so much effort too!
I love to have some relaxed days too.
Whenever I have to go to the supermarket, I wear some flat shoes and a jeans and put my hair in a bun and leave.  It might be quite a difference from my normal daily look, haha.
I secretly hope to not see anyone during my supermarket trip. Maybe I am a little vain…

11) Height and weight?

I have a petite figure. I measure 1m63 and I weigh 50 kgs.
When I was younger I always wanted to be more curvy and have bigger boobs and a bigger butt.
As for now, I try to embrace the body type I have! A lot of different body types can be beautiful and everyone likes something else.
There will always be people who think your type of body is absolutely beautiful… I think what is really important is being healthy and happy in your own body despite the current unrealistic beauty standards.

12) What’s your hidden talent?

Hmmm… I don’t know about that honestly!
Well maybe something a lot of people don’t know is the fact that as a child, I was very busy with acting.
I also wanted to become an actress at some point.
I was doing a lot of auditions for television and played a few small roles as a child for some television programmes.
I was always so frustrated that in Belgium they have rules regarding maximum amount of hours you can work within your age category.
I wished I could have done more.
I don’t know why I stopped with acting. At a certain point when I reached puberty, I wasn’t as confident anymore or maybe I just lost interest.

Also, I don’t have a lot of talent for sports but I already ski from a very young age.
People always tell me that they don’t expect me to ski that well.
I don’t know if it is a big talent of mine though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

13) Do you want children?

I am certainly not thinking about that yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰
However, I do think I would miss out if I wouldn’t get children.
I won’t get it anytime soon, but I would be open for 1 or 2 children.

14) Are you in a relationship?

I am sorry to disappoint anyone but I am in a relationship. ๐Ÿ˜‰
It is my own decision to not show to much of my love life, that’s a part I want to keep for myself.
Maybe that will change one day though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

15) Would you change something about yourself?

I always felt very insecure about my nose.
It is not straight and I don’t like the profile of it. I always wished I had a smaller perfect cute nose.
A few years ago, I went to a plastic surgeon to get a nose job but eventually decided to cancel it since my family was against it.
I am still thinking about it though, but I feel like I can’t make a decision
